All style and no substance, a guide for purchasing computers. Too many people opt to buy that cheap shiny new laptop or tiny desktop. Buyers are motivated by appearance: slim, modern, compact, light weight, etc. The glee of the new purchase soon turns to gloom. These cheap new computers contain slow AMD processors. Furthermore the operating system is loaded onto low performance hard disks that spin at 5400 RPM. All monies saved at time of purchase is soon lost in time wasted waiting on a slow computer to perform tasks. The remedy that speeds up that $200+ laptop purchased from Walmart is often costly, involving the installation of Windows onto an expensive solid state hard disk. Again the unwise consumer loses. Those cute tiny desktops contain power supplies that may be difficult and costly to replace. Power supplies in desktop computers often blow during power black out. These desktops also tend to run slowly because they contain slow AMD CPUs. These slim laptops and tiny destops tend to overheat beause there is insufficient space for air to circulate inside. Overheating causes chips on the motherboard to burn out prematurely. I sell used business class laptop computers with a fast i7 CPU. Also Windows is loaded onto hard drives that spin at 7200 RPM. The laptops I sell may not look sexy but they run faster and are more reliable than those cheap flashy laptops. The used desktops I sell are standard sized towers with standard power supplies that are easily and cheaply replaceable.
