April 08, 2008 I streamlined all images to have OS and programs on 1 image file. The data image file is tiny and easily resizeable. I have given up making CDs. Its much simpler for me to link to the bootit image files. You may resore them onto free space then create images on CDs or DVDs (necessary for laptops). The light version of Windows 98 was designed to fit on a 2 GB HD. A flash drive will expand the limited HD space. The full version of Windows 98 fits best on a minimum of 10 GB HD. For HD less than 10 GB use the light version. You may resize the windows partition to suit needs. In both light and Full Win98 versions, Shockwave is not workining in FireFox In both versions, Shockwave, Flash and authorware work in Internet explorer Both versions require you to increase virtual memory. August 20/07 Fixed browser settings 98image is now perfect! Aug 19/07 More faults again...this time with Internet Explorer. You may easily fix these errors by doing the following: 1. login to each user 2. start internet explorer 3. click tools >internet options >advanced 4. uncheck automatically check for ie updates 5. checkmark disable script debugging 6. click apply 7. click OK In order to squeeze everything on 1 Cd I deleted some msi files. I found the remedy for the installer problem with office. I reinstalled office for each user. I hope this image is stable and functional on any older PC. I also installed outlook and quicktime. The images are uploading now while I am writing this! Good luck my disciples! May the force be with you! Aug 18/07 98 imge is flawed. when user2-user4 tries to open any office program windows instller error occurs. I will fix this and post another win98 imge...sorry folks! Aug 12/07 Outlook is not installed. However, I may install it because Office is installed on the data partition where there is room for it. I forgot to tell Internet explorer don't check for updates automatically. tools >internet options >advanced >uncheck check for updates automatically The above easy tweak must be done for all 4 users! 98 runs well on Pentium i, ii, iii (less than 1 ghz), problematic pentium 4's I have worked hard to create an image similar to xp. I put some software on drive D. beacuse I wanted to fit win98 SE on 1 CD. The other cd is for the data. image of c is only 2 GB, image of d is 1.7 gB. Both images consume about 1 GB of HD space. This 98 image will fit comfortably on a 6 GB HD. It may be possible to squeeze it on a 4 GB HD too! Remember to increase the virtual memory and drve d must be resized to be larger than drive c: I have also created an ultra light win98 SE for a 2GB HD. ---------------------------------------------------------------- A 2GB mage of C:\ drive (1 used and 1 free) containing Windows 98 SE with 4 users, security, useful programs + games zipped onto 1 CD. It is designed to work with a data partition consisting of programs, my documents for each user on 1 full CD. The images are restored using bootit software included in the downloads. Bootit software fits on 1 single floppy diskette or 1 almost empty CD. Beware this is a destructive restoration. Everything on the target partition is erased before the image is restored. Drivers for motherboard devices, chipsets and peripheral equipment must be installed. In other words this is ADVANCED STUFF! NOT FOR NEWBIES! A help file has instructions for the technician or wanna-be to follow. Download the images from http://drpcdr.ca/98image.htm Good luck my disciples! May the force be with you! Chris
