It started with a Facebook post: "Last 2 customers that gave me a hard time wore dreadlocks. The beauty of locks is often marred by the ugly people who wear them. We need to concern ourselves with an inner beauty. What we need is barbershops for the psyche." I knew the common denominator was depression. In the case of the female, post postpartum blues. The young male dreadlock is depressed and abuses alcohol. I contemplated how I can implement barbershops for the psyche. My original idea was to copy ISO images of DVD movies that educate, motivate, heal and uplift people, especially people of color. These videos would be copied to the hard disks of people in contact with large numbers of people in the black community. People like barbers, retail beauty supply store owners, restaurants, etc. I knew the Toronto Public Library has plenty videos. I began placing holds on videos. I soon discovered I could NOT complete my project quickly by using only 1 library card. So I asked my customers for help. Seven customers gave me authority to use their library cards. Thank you to: Queen, Jodi, Clova, Adachie, Angie, Ian and Napthalie. Thanks to the Tornto Public library and the outstanding customer servive from Evelyn Gregory and Maria Shuka branches: http://www.torontopubliclibrary.ca/ I purchased two 2 TB and used two 1 TB desktop hard disks and one 1 TB and one 500 GB laptop hard disks. I used DVD Decrypter to rip the DVDs to the hard disks. Then I used handbrake: http://handbrake.fr to convert the decrypted video files into compressed MP4 files that were one tenth the size of the extracted video. The encoding process is CPU intensive and tied up 3 computers running simultaneously overnight for days. My goal was to fit as many videos on a 32 GB flash drive (max 29 GB). I devised a method to select the smallest MP4s. I could not have done this without FreeCommander Xe , http://www.freecommander.com So my original idea morphed from barbershops for the psyche to deploying a Free Education along with Windows for no extra charge, a new feature added to my PC repair service!
