Fix MSN in Windows Vista:

1.  First. Install msn messenger 8.5

Right click on browser popup then left click download file.

2.  Sign in to messenger 8.5 (You will login without update...OOPS)

3.  Sign out of messenger 8.5

4.  Sign in to messenger (Now you will be prompted to update)

5.  Update MSN messenger online

6.  When prompted to close MSN messenger you may help by 
right clicking the MSN task near bottom left on the taskbar then left click close.
Right click the MSN task near bottom right on the taskbar then left click close.

7. Click OK to stop programs

8. Unselect all optional checkmarks

9. Delete old MSN shortcuts.  Working shortcut is in start >All Programs >Win Live

10. Copy new MSN shortcut to your desktop.

This worked for me!
