Unnecessary escalation leading to my arrest by security guards at the Toronto Public library, Nathan Philips Square, Valentine's Day 2020 around noon time.

Yes drpcdr.ca was handcuffed, searched, banned from entering that branch of the library for 2 months then escorted outside city hall in hand cuffs.

I visited the library to attend a one hour event:

I was about to take pics but received protests about not permitted to photograph children without consent from parents

So i did not take one single pic or 1 millisecond of video or audio.

I was watching a public event. Because it was in the kids section of the library, i was asked to leave.

I refused to leave at first but later went to an area just outside the kids zone.

A female security guard was not satisfied. She insisted on continuing escalating the situation unnecessarily.

A police officer came and said I should comply with the request of library staff.

I protested:

"This is a free public event i came to enjoy. I am not doing anything wrong. I am not leaving. Go ahead and arrest me.

A scuffle broke out. I ended up lying face down on the floor with handcuffs tied tightly behind my back.

I was handled roughly by 4 security guards. One of them was female.

I was brought to a nearby security office.

While searching my pockets, security kept asking me if I have any sharp or dangerous objects. I replied:

"No. I have answered no a thousand times already"

Police checked me for any outstanding warrants and found none.

I was escorted outside city hall in hand cuffs.

Handcuffs were removed and I was released along with the contents of my pockets in a plastic garbage bag.

I complained to library services manager, Jonathan Demers, 416 393 7642, jdemers@tpl.ca
