How to use your Ipod on a Win98 PC: I found this informative post on the Internet: http://www.badtvedits.com/ephpod/ephpod275.exe Ephpod For WinXP http://www.ephpod.com/ephpod258.exe Alternative Itunes Ephpod For win98 http://windowsx64.freefronthost.com/ipod/win98-iPod-PSP-v21.zip Win98 Ipod driver you need access to a friends computer with win xp to format the ipod for the first time. Only need access to friends computer once. using friends computer with win xp follow instructions on how to set up BUT DON’T TRANSFER ANY SONGS OR FILES TO THE IPOD. You must have a freshly formated ipod with nothing done to it for the ephpod software to initialize otherwise the ipod will freeze. 1) install Itunes on friends computer 2) plug ipod in and format the ipod hard disk using the itunes program (apparently doesn’t work if you try to format using windows formating program) On Win98 computer, do the following: download and install ephpod 2.58 (it’s a free program for win 98) Download and unzip the usb driver for the ipod. remember where you unzip it to as you will need it when windows asks you later. The driver is called “win98-iPod-PSP-v21.zip” Restart the computer Connect the ipod to the computer It will detect the ipod and ask to install the driver, chose to browse for the driver manually, and point to the directory where you had unziped the driver, win98-ipod-PSP-v21.zip. now start ephpod select the removable drive that is your ipod it should say “copying mac files”, wait a while as it takes about 2 minutes to complete If you find the ipod hangs at the apple screen, you can recover from this by putting the ipod into disc mode (switch hold on then back off, press top part of click wheel and center select button for 6 seconds, then when ipod is reseting press the center select and bottom part of click wheel for 6 seconds). Then connect ipod to the computer, start up ephpod, go to itools and select rebuild the database file from ipod. once you are done. close ephpod, eject and reset the ipod (if it doesn't do so automatically) to exit disc mode and go back to normal use mode. To disconnect the ipod when you are finished exit ephpod then go to my computer and right click on the removeable drive, choose eject.
