How to Connect IDE HD to New PC without any IDE ports 1. Purchase a SATA to IDE converter. I got mine from Canada Computers for $30.00. 2. Purchase a power splitter cable for a floppy drive. Steps 2-5 are necessary for me because I need to run bootit from a floppy disk to restore an image from my IDE HD to customer's SATA HD attached to a SATA MB. New Pc motherboards have a 34 pin floppy port and only 1 power plug for the floppy drive. The SATA to IDE converter needs this power plug. I got mine from Above All Electronics for $2.50. 3. Purchase a 3.5 inch floppy drive + floppy cable. 4. Install floppy drive. Insert bootit floppy boot disk. 5. connect power splitter cable for floppy drive 6. Connect SATA to IDE converter connected to IDE HD and floppy power plug Connect SATA cable from converter to motherboard. 7. Boot PC Beware that your IDE drive will automatically become HD0 and the bios will try to boot from it first. The new SATA technology only allows 1 device to be attached per SATA cable/port. The old IDE allowed at least 2 devices per IDE cable/port. Please note you may need to make changes to the bios disk drive config. Load default settings then change the sata operation from sata to Auto. There's only 2 choices so it must be the other one NOT SATA. Enabling a disk drive not in use will generate errors during bootup. Use the spacebar to unselect disk drive not in use. ---------------------------- I have bought a bifunctional SATA >IDE and IDE >SATA that connects directly to the power supply. I no longer need the extra floppy power plug. If you can't boot from CD then be prepared to use bootit from floppy
